In different letters from readers and opinions in the forums of LA GACETA, there are many people who have been repudiating the neutrality assumed by the UCR for the final Presidential Elections on November 19, 2023. Those of us who study the history of the centenary party and embrace their flags from militancy and as leaders, we only have to agree with this claim, since it was the struggle of Alem and especially that of Dr. Hipólito Yrigoyen that allowed us to access the secret and universal vote, opening the doors of the Participatory democracy 100 years after the declaration of our Independence. Such neutrality is unacceptable, in the same way that it would be incoherent not to vote for the Unión por la Patria candidates, in the face of another electoral option that proposes returning to the elitist pre-Yrigoyenista Argentina; to sweep away acquired rights and the role of a State that made our Nation great, thanks to public, secular and free education. Not satisfied with this, they also dedicate themselves to offending and attacking the figure of President Raúl Alfonsín, for having placed the Argentine Republic in the showcase of nations that defend Human Rights, by carrying out the Trial of those responsible for State terrorism, as well as the leaders of the organizations that chose to use weapons to resist it. For all that has been said, I understand that the UCR has the moral obligation to break with its neutrality and join Unión por la Patria.
