Letters of thanks Min. of Maritime and Island Policy Miltiadis Varvitsiotis to the professionals who contributed to the rescue of people from the fires in Rhodes

The Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy Miltiadis Varvitsiotis sent letters of thanks to the 57 private individuals – professionals who helped with their boats in the rescue of 3,700 people from the fires in Rhodes.

They are captains and operators of commercial boats, passenger-tourist boats, tugboats, fishing boats, speedboats and a jet ski.

In the letter, which is addressed to each one individually, Mr. Varvitsiotis states:

“I want to express my warm thanks for your decisive assistance in the evacuation operations, by sea, of persons at risk due to the fires that occurred on the island of Rhodes, in July 2023.

This action of yours is an excellent act of solidarity that demonstrates the highest commitment to the long-standing traditions of the Greek navy and to the protection of the most precious commodity, human life.

I wholeheartedly wish you health and the best for you and your loved ones.”

I thank the 57 private individuals who contributed decisively with their boats to the rescue of 3,700 people from the fires in Rhodes.
