The first film by Brazilian director Lillah Halla won the supreme award at the Biarritz Festival on Saturday night. The feature film tells the story of a volleyball player who sees her dreams cut short when she is informed that she is pregnant. The film is an ode to sisterhood, and a defense of women’s right to decide about their bodies and sexuality, in a country where abortion is socially and legally condemned.
