The US Embassy in Libya called on “all key Libyan parties to engage constructively with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to de-escalate tensions in the political landscape.”

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the floods that swept the city of Derna and other areas of the Green Mountain, the embassy stressed “the need to reactivate the political process to reach a permanent settlement that ensures the stability and prosperity of Libya.”

The US embassy added, “The anniversary of the tragedy in Derna and other communities affected by the floods reminds us of the inspiring unity shown by the Libyan people in their immediate response to the crisis.”

The embassy stressed that “Libya still desperately needs unity and transparent and effective management of the Libyan people’s resources.”

The embassy renewed its “commitment to stand by the Libyan people in times of need, expressing its sincere condolences to the families of the victims.”

“Over the past year, the United States has contributed more than $15.7 million to help flood-affected Libyan communities access food, water, health care, protection, shelter, and psychosocial support, and we continue to contribute to reconstruction and development efforts,” she said.
