Libya ranked first in Africa in terms of proven oil reserves in 2024, with about 50 billion barrels.
The global data analysis platform, Global Firepower, revealed that “Libya came in first place in Africa and ninth in the world with the largest amount of crude oil reserves, at 50 billion barrels, noting that previous statistics estimated its size at about 48 billion barrels.”
Nigeria came in with reserves of 36.9 billion barrels, followed by Algeria in third place with total reserves of 12.2 billion barrels, then Angola in fourth place with 7.78 billion barrels.
As for “Sudan, it came in fifth place as the largest country in Africa in terms of oil reserves, with five billion barrels, followed by South Sudan in sixth place with 3.75 billion barrels,” according to the Al-Wasat portal.
In the same context, the National Oil Corporation announced that “Libya is the largest oil exporter in Africa for the year 2023,” according to data from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The corporation stated, “Libya is the highest African country exporting oil during the past year, with 1,189,000 barrels.”
She added, “Nigeria came in second place with 1,187,000 barrels, Angola came in third place with a production of 1,098,000 barrels, and Algeria came in fourth with 973,000.”
She pointed out that “Egypt is ranked fifth with a production of 453 thousand barrels, Congo with 271 thousand barrels, and Gabon with 223 thousand barrels.”
