Libya participates in the World Free Zones Organization conference in Dubai

A delegation from the Ministry of Economy of the government designated by the House of Representatives participated in the tenth annual international conference of the World Free Zones Organization, which was held in Dubai.

According to what the Ministry published, “The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade for Free Zone Affairs, Nouri Qatati, participated in the conference that was held during the period from September 23 to 25, 2024, under the slogan “Economic Zones and Changing Global Economic Structures – Exploring New Horizons for Investment,” in the presence of Sheikh Ahmed. Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, and a number of ministers and officials in the Dubai region.”

According to the Ministry, “The conference witnessed the presence of an elite group of experts, specialists and decision makers in the fields of free zones and logistics services, in addition to investors, entrepreneurs and academics from around the world. Representatives from more than 136 countries also attended, along with more than 2,000 global business leaders.” Regional officials, free zone officials, and representatives of many international organizations and bodies.”

It is noteworthy that, on the sidelines of the event, “many meetings and gatherings were held that shed light on the role of the World Free Zones Organization in strengthening the global economy.” During these meetings, Mr. Nouri Qatati discussed the strategic role played by the Libyan free zones in the movement of trade in the Mediterranean Sea, and transit trade towards deep Africa, in addition to ways to enhance investment in various economic fields. He also pointed out the importance of supporting the World Free Zones Organization to develop Libyan free zones, and exploring the possibility of benefiting from joining this organization to enhance economic diversification in Libya.
