Libya will not be affected by the upcoming depression

Weather model analyst at the Roya Foundation for Astronomy and Applications, Ibrahim Sultan, confirmed, “Libya is far from the path of the depression that will pass through Italy, Croatia, and Greece, heading east to Turkey this week.”

Sultan explained to the Libyan Al-Anbaa newspaper, “The edges of the depression are what will affect the regions of the country, and therefore the expected amounts of rain are considered good and somewhat heavy, but not dangerous.”

Regarding citizens’ fear of the dams being full, he said, “The water level in the dams will not reach half, and the valleys will flow but will not overflow,” indicating that the harm will only be to those living around the valley’s streams for various reasons, the most notable of which is the possibility of them being closed due to random construction or dumped waste.

The weather analyst called on citizens to “exercise caution and follow the authorities’ instructions to avoid any risks or emergencies.”

In turn, the Director of the Media Office of the National Meteorological Center, Mohieddin Ali Ramadan, said in a special statement to the Libyan News Agency, “The rains expected in the coming days will not cause major human or material damage.”

He explained that “the expected depression will not be severe or frightening, noting that it will be immediately followed on Tuesday and Wednesday by another depression that will affect the eastern and northern regions, with the possibility of flowing valleys.”

Mohieddin confirmed that “the winds will be very active, with speeds ranging between 50 and 80 kilometers per hour, which may lead to the breaking of some tree branches or the collapse of dilapidated columns.”

He called on citizens to “stay away from valley paths and places where water collects, and not to go out except in necessary cases, with the need to take caution and be careful of wind speeds that may cause damage such as falling signs, trees, and poles.”

Mohieldin announced “the actual entry into the astronomical winter season on Sunday, noting that winter will reach its peak in the middle of the week and continue until Thursday, and despite the great saturation of the soil with rainwater, he stressed that the expected amount of rain will be less than that which the country witnessed previously, which reduces Of the risks, but he warned of the damage that may result from strong winds.”

Mohieddin reassured the citizens, noting that “what happened in the city of Derna will not be repeated in the next depression, as the amount of rain will be less, which reduces the possibility of similar disasters occurring, despite the challenges facing the infrastructure in some areas.”
