Geneva: A boat carrying refugees from Libya sank in the Mediterranean Sea, killing at least 90 people. The boat, which left the Libyan coast four days ago, was reported to have crashed on Saturday morning. UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grande made the announcement yesterday.
Four people aboard the boat were rescued by a crude oil tanker called Allegriia 1. About 100 people were on board the boat. According to The Euro Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, 1,864 refugees will die or disappear in similar accidents in 2021 alone. In 2020, it was 1,401.
