Dormitory decree: Following Minister Lieberman’s opposition to the compromise proposed by the High Court to postpone the cuts until the Passover holiday, the High Court announced that a ruling would be given later.

This (Monday) afternoon, another hearing was held in the dormitory High Court, submitted by a number of associations, against Finance Minister Yvette Lieberman’s decision to cut and abolish the subsidy for dormitories for students.

During the hearing after a consultation held by the judges, the parties were offered to agree on a compromise, in which the cut will be postponed to the upcoming Passover holiday, and will begin on the date only in about four months which will allow tens of thousands of families to properly prepare for the cut.

State representatives went out to hold a consultation with the ministers, and at the end reiterated that Finance Minister Yvette Lieberman opposes the compromise. Following this, the judges are expected to publish their decision in the petition soon.

Attorneys Shmuel Maklev, Uriel Stern and Yonatan Feldman representing the petitioners stated: “The court heard our claims about the flaws in the decision with great attention, and we hope that a decision will be made soon to postpone the abolition of the subsidy for dormitory children, at least for the next school year.”

Advocate Zalman Black, who represents the organization ‘True to Jacob’ in the petition, stated: “I have recommended to the state to postpone the move for a few more months. I hope that the High Court’s decision will also express this spirit.”
