The 17-year-old Lielbarži team showed the second result in one of the two qualification groups on Saturday. On Sunday, in the first race after the first lap, the Latvians were the vice-leaders, but in the ninth lap they overtook the crew of Belgian Marvin Vanluschen. The brothers kept the leading position and won one of the world championship races for the first time in their career.
Vanluchen finished second, while Briton Brett Wilkinson was third.
In the second race, the Latvians initially settled in the third position and fought for a long time with the Dutchwoman Kuhn Hermans, but did not overtake her. Hermans won after the leader Vanluschen retired, Lielbarži was second, and Wilkinson finished third again.
Lielbarži won 47 points, Wilkinson had 40 points, and Hermans – 39 points.
This season, ten stages are planned for the crews of the world motocross championship in the competition calendar.
Last year, Daniels and Bruno Lielbarži took fifth place in the overall standings of the world championship crews, having completed their first full season, while the Belgian Marvins Vanluchen with the “canter” Nicolas Mousset from France became the champions.
