SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Engineer Lieven Cooreman will be the new president of VLI, a major operator of port terminals and railways in Brazil, starting next Monday, the company said on Friday.

In his career, he was CEO of Porto Sudeste, Eurochem Fertilizantes Tocantins and Fertilizantes Heringer (BVMF:), his last position, among other leadership positions.

The executive takes charge of the company at a time when Brazil is experiencing strong crop growth, which challenges the country’s logistical capabilities.

“The company is experiencing a cycle of increased efficiency in offering services to customers, and my focus will be to accelerate the transformations we are carrying out, with innovation and sustainability for the entire chain”, he says, in a statement released by the company to Reuters.

The new president succeeds Fábio Marchiori, who occupied the position on an interim basis and remains at the company as Chief Financial, Suppy Chain and Services Director.

Among the highlights of the executive’s resume, VLI mentioned that Cooreman led the implementation of ventures and company integration processes, growth cycles and merger and acquisition processes in key segments for the Brazilian economy, such as mining, steel and agribusiness.
