The first years of his career were difficult, the turning point in 1985 with his third participation in Sanremo

Zucchero ‘Sugar’ Fornaciari was born on 25 September 1955 in Roncocesi, a hamlet of Reggio Emilia. Son of Giuseppe Fornaciari and Rina Bondavalli, he says he had a childhood as an altar boy in church and that his house was opposite the PCI headquarters. At 11 he moved with his family to Forte dei Marmi, moving away from his grandmother with whom he had a close relationship.
The first years of his career were difficult, the turning point in 1985 with his third participation in Sanremo. With ‘Donne’, the singer-songwriter comes second to last. But thanks to the radio the song has a huge success. ‘Baila’, ‘Senza una donna’, ‘Diavolo in me’ some of his most famous songs. He says he is very melancholy about himself, and said he suffered from depression between the 80s and 90s, after the enormous success of the album ‘Oro incense e beer’.
Daughter Irene Fornaciari is a popular singer-songwriter: she competed four times at the Sanremo Festival. Alice, on the other hand, did not follow the path of music: she is a creator and designer of jewellery. In 1998, Adelmo Blue was born from the love between Zucchero and Francesca Mozer (his former assistant).
Luciano Pavarotti, Bono, Sting, Eric Clapton: during his career Zucchero has collaborated with many artists of international caliber. ‘Zucchero-Sugar Fornaciari’ was recently released, a docufilm on his life, which remained in theaters for three days. (LaPresse/Ap)
