Life expectancy and retirement | THE DAILY

Mr. Director
In the last 60 years, there has been a significant increase in the life expectancy of the inhabitants of Western Europe. The increase in the limit is certainly due to the improvement of medical care and the improvement of living conditions. It is also due to the improvement of travel conditions and the reduction of fatal accidents, road, air and rail.

The increase in life expectancy to 22 years in the 21st century is almost 3 years.

Western Europeans will therefore live longer and receive a pension for more years as well. It is logical to increase the retirement age a little.

In France, President Macron decided to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. This increase will not happen immediately, but will be scaled up until the year 2030, i.e. the retirement age will increase by 2 to 3 months every year.

This decision caused multi-day and multi-person demonstrations by workers in Paris and other French cities. I confess that I find it difficult to understand our French friends.
