Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Sessions Court has sentenced preacher Asaram Babu to life imprisonment in the rape case.
Asaram Babu, who was operating an ashram near Gandhinagar, Gujarat, after many devotees joined him, he set up ashrams in many other places. He was accused of sexually assaulting a girl in the ashram in 2013 while he was in an ashram in Rajasthan. Subsequently, Asaram Babu was arrested and lodged in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur Jail.
The Gandhinagar Sessions Court, which heard the case filed by the victim of Asaram Babu, yesterday (Monday) announced that the charge against him had been proved and he was found guilty. Subsequently, in this case, Asaram Babu was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of 50 thousand rupees, Judge T.K. Sony ruled today.
In this case, Asaram Babu, who appeared in the case through video conferencing as he was in jail for the last 9 years, appeared in the same manner today. Following the verdict, he continues to be lodged in Jodhpur jail.
It may be recalled that in 2019, the Surat Sessions Court sentenced Asaram Babu’s son Narayan Sai to life imprisonment on charges of sexually assaulting the younger sister of the girl who was sexually assaulted by Asaram Babu.
