The challenge of playing the role of a police officer for 17 years
– Having played the role of a police officer for the past 17 years, why do you continue to play this role in the movie “The One” and not another role?
– Actually, I have many opportunities to take on other types of roles. As I said, there is always a higher mountain than this one. That is why actors often choose different roles to test themselves. However, Bao Anh I am an amateur actor, so instead of choosing diverse roles, from the very beginning of my career I have always been steadfast in my choice.
First of all, the role of a police officer is a matter of fate, it is the first role Bao Anh has done. Second, when I have shaped the role, I like it and am passionate about it, I want to succeed in this type of role. Before, when I had only acted in films for 2-3 years with about 6-7 police roles, my teacher, People’s Artist Hoang Dung, said: “You should change, try your hand at other types of roles”.
And the first time I argued with my teacher: “No teacher! I will try to succeed in this role. When I succeed and repay you, I will find another role.” Exactly 10 years later, Bao Anh succeeded in playing a police officer, that was Bao Ngau in Nguoi phan xu – a role played with my teacher. Finally, I was able to repay my teacher and prove that I had a position.
After that, I also hesitated whether to change or not. But thinking back, I found the role of a police officer to be very beautiful and colorful, each role has a different fate but still has the same style, cold towards love affairs, only focusing on solving cases. I found the character of a police officer very precious and was attracted to it and did not want to change.
For me, the more I play the role of a police officer, the more I see the good points that I lacked before. Now, when playing a police officer in the movie Doc Dao, I feel that it is not enough and I have to do better. Even though I have been playing a police officer for 17 years, I still want to continue playing this type of role for a few more years so that the audience can truly recognize me.
– Many people say you are too safe so you keep choosing to play roles that are too familiar?
-I think being a bad guy is easy, being a good guy is hard. This safe choice is the most dangerous choice. Viewers will compare my previous police roles. When I asked the audience if they still wanted me to be a police officer? Most of them said “still like it”. So why did I have to give up this role? It is no longer safe but a huge challenge that requires you to overcome it.

– So what is the difference and attraction for Bao Anh in the next police character in the criminal police movie?
-Phung is a special role, the most heartbreaking role in the 17 years I have played a police officer, but what it is, I cannot reveal yet. This is a role that really makes me Actress Bao Anh I was very hesitant when I accepted the role, even though I always liked playing a police officer. It is completely different from other police roles, which you will notice when you watch the movie.
– 17 years playing a police officer, if you had to count right now, do you remember how many movies you played a police officer in? Perhaps Bao Anh is the actress who plays the most police officers on Northern television…
-I only remember vaguely (laughs). Actually, I had a plan to become an actor. police role the most in Vietnam. Of course, it is very difficult because there are many uncles and aunts above me who have played police officers for many years. I hope VFC produces more police crime films so that I can continue to play police roles, even small ones, so that I can add them to my list of roles.
– The audience is very familiar with your neat and serious image in the roles of police officers on screen except for “Gara Hanh Phuc”. I wonder if you bring your real life into the film because the images of your life shared on your personal page are very different from the roles you play?
-In life, I am a cheerful person, always smiling. And at work, of course, I have to live with other people. Work requires seriousness and although I have a cold face, I am a very emotional person. Emotional men often have their own quiet moments, so I am suitable for the role of a police officer. The more I grow up, the more mature I become and I want to use that maturity to put into my roles. That is what brings change to my future police roles.

– Does getting older and becoming a father for the third time have a strong impact on your emotions when filming?
-A lot! When you have 1 child it’s different, 2 children are much different, and 3 children are completely different. When I didn’t have children yet, I could spend all my time researching the script. But when I became a father and had 3 children, there wasn’t much time left. In the morning, I took the 2 older children to school and then came home to help my wife hold the other child because he was only a few months old.
So, before the shooting day, I only had a few hours to study the script again, so I had to concentrate. Luckily, I also have experience with this type of role, so I am confident that I can spend less time on it. When I became a father of 3 children, all the emotions put into the film were sweeter, I am truly a family man, a more responsible man.
– Working on films continuously like this, you have to leave all the family and children’s matters to your wife, how does she manage?
-My wife is a wonderful person, patient, hard-working and very sacrificial. She devoted her youth, her work and her own personal space to her husband and children. Now she stays at home to take care of our three children. My wife was born in 1992, 11 years younger than me. Luckily, my wife is very hard-working so I feel secure entrusting all the family matters to her.
– If you weren’t acting, what would your daily routine be like at home?
– I have to take one child to school at 7:15, one at 8:15, and then feed the youngest child and go to the market. When preparing to make a film, I have to calculate very carefully in my head, and prepare everything a few days before filming. I usually take on film projects in the summer because I don’t have to take my children to school. They will have a full summer vacation and I will be less worried. When it’s the school year, I usually don’t take on film projects.
No matter how good the role is, I still have to ask my wife for her opinion on a film project. My wife always supports me, and sometimes she gets impatient when she sees her husband staying home for a long time without making a film. But seeing how hard it is for his wife and children, even if we make fewer films, the family will try to eat a little more scientifically, as long as I can rest assured that everything is taken care of at home. It is better than rushing out to earn money while a child’s childhood is very short. Seeing our children grow up little by little is my happiness. That is why no matter what sacrifice my wife and I make, it is worth it!
“Today she turns 33 years old according to her birth certificate and turns 32 years old according to her real birth year. She has 3 children. She wears almost no makeup. She is simple and she is still more beautiful than any 18 to 33 year old girl I know. Honey, I certainly can’t do many things during this time. I love you,” Bao Anh wrote on his wife’s birthday a few months ago.
– Following your personal page, everyone sees that Bao Anh seems to pamper his wife and is very affectionate, quite different from his roles in movies?
I have to pamper her! I only have one wife for my whole life, if I don’t pamper her, who will I pamper?
