Lifting the state of force majeure in all oil fields and ports

The National Oil Corporation announced “the lifting of the state of force majeure in all crude oil fields and ports, starting today, Thursday, October 3, 2024.”

In turn, the Libyan Prime Minister-designate of the House of Representatives, Osama Hammad, announced, “Lifting the state of force majeure on all oil fields and ports, and resuming production and export operations normally.”

He said in a statement: “This measure that was taken comes within the framework of supporting the efforts made by the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives and the members of the State Council to resolve the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya, which was crowned with success in agreeing to choose a governor of the Central Bank and his deputy.”

Yesterday, Wednesday, Bashir Al-Sheikh, head of the Fezzan movement, announced “the resumption of production in all oil fields in Libya, with the exception of the Sharara field,” while the head of the Libyan General Oil Syndicate, Salem Al-Rumaih, stated earlier, “that the losses from the oil closures in Libya amount to To about 850 thousand barrels per day, equivalent to 416 million dinars (about 59.4 million dollars).”

It is noteworthy that on August 26, the Libyan government appointed by the House of Representatives, headed by Osama Hammad, declared “a state of ‘force majeure’ on all oil fields, ports, institutions and facilities, stopping the production and export of oil until further notice.”

On September 26, representatives of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State agreed regarding the appointment of the new administration of the Central Bank of Libya. The agreement stipulated the nomination of “Naji Muhammad Issa Belkacem” to assume the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and “Marai Muftah Raheel Al-Barasi” to assume the position of Deputy Governor.

Yesterday, the Central Bank of Libya issued a decision to withdraw all decisions issued by the former governor-designate during the period from August 27 to October 1, 2024.
