Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito tied 1-1 against Junior de Barranquilla, in a match played at the Metropolitano stadium, valid for Group D of the Copa Libertadores de América.

The home team seemed determined to settle the match in their favour from the very beginning, and as a result of that, by the 12th minute they were already winning with a goal from Carlos Bacca from a penalty kick.

As the match progressed, the Ecuadorian team began to control the game, and after several attempts, the equalizing goal came thanks to an effective penalty kick executed by Paraguayan Alex Arce in the 45th minute of the match.

In the second half, the home team again came out determined to go after the opponent’s goal. The intensity of the game was balanced by the footballing response of the Ecuadorian team, which looked very confident in all its movements.

Both Colombians and Ecuadorians had clear scoring opportunities that they failed to take advantage of, as was the case for Michel Estrada for LDU or Carlos Bacca for Junior de Barranquilla. The clearest opportunity of the second half was for the home team when Luis “Cariaco” Gonzáles failed to score when executing a penalty kick in the 76th minute.

With this result, Junior remains in first place with 5 points, followed by Universitario with 4, LDU with 4 and Botafogo closing without points in Group D of the Copa Libertadores de América.
