Liga Portugal celebrates its 46th anniversary this Saturday. Initially called the Portuguese League of Professional Football Clubs, the autonomy of the competitions was officially recognized on January 13, 1990, having organized the first championship in 1995.

Currently, Liga Portugal organizes and regulates the three professional competitions, the Betclic League, the SABSEG League and the Allianz CUP. Since July 2015, it has been under the leadership of Pedro Proença, who is currently serving his third consecutive term as head of the organization, having been unanimously re-elected in June 2023.

“The Portugal League is, today, more solid than ever, and, without any doubt, prepared for the challenges of the future, which are increasingly stimulating. We are committed to strengthening our positioning, now consolidated at an international level, and continuing to raise standards of excellence, ensuring that the competitions we organize drive the sustainable growth of Professional Football in Portugal. It has been a privilege to observe the growth and consolidation of Liga Portugal and this 46th year of existence of Liga Portugal has everything to be remarkable, with the inauguration of Arena Liga Portugal, the new home of Professional Football”, declared Pedro Proença.
