The torch lighting ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was held today, Tuesday, in the new edition of the Summer Olympics.
During the celebration ceremony held in the ancient city of Olympia in Greece, the Olympic flame was lit by Greek actress Mary Mina, who played the role of the high priestess in the ceremony.
Among the attendees were the President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, the President of the Greek National Olympic Committee, Spyros Kapralos, and the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, in accordance with the customs followed for launching the Olympic torch, and other officials.
The French flag was raised and the national anthem was played in Olympia, Athens, during the torch lighting ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
France has previously won the honor of hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics, which bears the name Paris Olympics, after the last session was held in Tokyo.
The ceremony marks the beginning of the torch relay in Greece and France, the host country of the Summer Olympics, which will end in Paris for the start of the games on July 26.
The Summer Olympics are scheduled to be held on July 26, 2024, and their competitions will continue until August 11.
