BOLZANOThe operations of the Carabinieri of Bolzano to combat urban decay and illegal activities in the city center, especially in the area of Via Alto Adige and its surroundings. In response to numerous reports from citizens concerned about the growing phenomenon of drug dealing and the presence of homeless people, the Carabinieri Company Command of Bolzano has intensified controls, with foot patrols and high-impact operations.
These interventions have already led, in recent months, to significant results, as demonstrated by the 28 monitoring steps carried out in the last month alone and the two specific interventions requested for reports of drug dealing.
In the late evening of August 1, 2024, a territorial control operation led to an important arrest. During a patrol service in the internal courtyard delimited between the Chamber of Commerce and the Teatro Comunale di Bolzano, in Piazza Verdi, the Carabinieri intercepted three individuals intent on conversing. The attention of the operators was immediately focused on one of them, who, at the sight of the military, attempted to move away. Promptly stopped, the three individuals were subjected to control.
On the saddle of a bicycle used by one of the arrested, a 10 euro note and a small quantity of a narcotic substance, presumably hashish, weighing 1.86 grams were found. When asked to hand over any additional narcotic substances in their possession, the other two individuals spontaneously handed over small packages containing hashish.
The search of the owner of the bicycle then led to the seizure of a further 73.84 grams of hashish, divided into two pieces, and 142 euros in cash. In the subsequent search, a package containing cocaine, weighing 0.80 grams, was also found hidden inside the arrested man’s rectum.
The individual, already in a state of psychophysical alteration, showed self-harming behaviors, making medical intervention necessary and subsequent transport to the emergency room for treatment. The timely intervention of the Carabinieri allowed them to block a drug dealing activity in flagrante delicto, ensuring the safety and decorum of the area.
The Commander of the Carabinieri Company of Bolzano, Lieutenant Colonel Stefano Esposito Vangone, stated: «This arrest is the result of a constant and coordinated commitment to guarantee the safety of citizens. We will continue to intensify our efforts, monitoring and intervening promptly to prevent and combat any form of crime. For us, there are no free zones: the controls will continue without stopping to make these areas safer. Our determination is maximum in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all the citizens of Bolzano».
