This Wednesday evening, the Professional Football League (LFP) disclosed its list of sanctions following the last Ligue 1 matches. The meeting between Rennes and Nantes, when homophobic chants targeting Nantes player Matthis Abline in particular were heard, was particularly concerned . Considering that the chants were more offensive than homophobic, as some claimed, the LFP decided to only impose a fine of 70,000 euros on the Rennes club.

The songs heard at Roazhon Park were therefore considered less serious than those sung in the Auteuil stand during the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille. After investigation, the League decided to close this stand at the Parc des Princes for one final match and one suspended match. It was more lenient for Stade Rennais. It was in particular the duration of the songs and the whistles from part of the public which tipped the scales.

The firecracker throw, which caused the match between Montpellier and Clermont to be stopped after falling at the foot of Clermont goalkeeper Mory Diaw, was also mentioned. “In view of the seriousness of the facts, the Disciplinary Committee of the LFP decides to put the case under investigation,” she wrote in her press release. A session will be held on Wednesday October 25 to resolve this matter and decide on the follow-up.

Finally, in Ligue 2, AC Ajaccio appeared for the same facts as Stade Rennes, namely “use of pyrotechnic devices, throwing of objects and recorded oral expressions. » The sanction was, however, more severe than for the Bretons since the fine peaked at 80,000 euros and the Faedda stand at the François-Coty stadium will be closed for a suspended match.
