As the general astonishment subsides, OGC Nice reacted to welcome the happy outcome of the Beka Beka drama this Friday. In a statement, club president Jean-Pierre Rivère expressed the club’s relief and support after Alexis Beka Beka, 22, who threatened to throw himself off a viaduct near Nice, was taken out of danger.
“Above all, we are relieved that everything ended well today for Alexis,” declared Jean-Pierre Rivère on behalf of the red and black club. He was taken care of. We will continue to respect medical confidentiality and we ask everyone to do the same and respect their privacy. We are in his support as well as that of the entire club.”
A terrible scene played out on the Magnan viaduct, near Nice, this Friday, between 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
Suspended 100 meters above the void, the young professional player from OGC Nice threatened to end his life. Arriving quickly on site, the emergency services tried at length to convince him not to throw himself into the void, as did a psychologist, sent to the site by his club. A dangerous environment intervention group was also present.
The interveners ultimately won their case. Shortly after 2 p.m., the gendarmerie announced that the young man had been “taken care of safely by the firefighters”.
In the morning, the player stopped his car on the emergency lane. The right lane of the highway was then neutralized to allow all emergency vehicles to park. Traffic from Italy has also been slowed down.
The OGC Nice training this Friday was maintained, but the press who were invited there were asked to leave the premises. The press conference which was planned for the beginning of the afternoon has been postponed.
Sunday (3 p.m.), Nice, currently 2nd in Ligue 1, welcomes Brest, leader.
