At the penalty shootout and after sixteen shotsAnnecy, a team in the mid-table of Ligue 2, eliminated Marseille, second place in Ligue 1 and ten times champion of the competition, at the Velodrome stadium (2-2).
Igor Tudor’s team could not avoid failure. The Marseilles team avoided elimination before penalties with a goal in the 96th minute from Cameroonian Francoise Mughe that supported the locals. However, from eleven meters the visitors found their prize and agreed to the semifinals of the tournament along with Lyon, Nantes and Toulouse.
Marseille expect a quiet night when after half an hour he took advantage with Jordan Veretout’s goal but six minutes into the second half the situation changed. Malian Moise Sahi Dion and Kevin Mouanga came from behind for Annecy and put Marseille on the ropes, who were saved by Mughe’s goal that led to penalties.
Laurent Guyot’s team was more successful from eleven meters and achieved classification to the frustration of Marseille. Previously, two penalty goals from the Algerian Andy Delort brought Lens back to victory and qualified for the semifinals of the French Cup for the reigning champions, Nantes, who advanced the same way as Toulouse, with a comeback against Rodez, from second division.
Nantes and Toulouse join Lyon who achieved their goal on Tuesday. The semifinal poster is completed with Annecy, the only one that survives from Ligue 2.
