Festival of goals, this Saturday afternoon at La Beaujoire! In a challenging and at times stunning match, FC Nantes snatched a precious victory (5-3) against Lorient, during the 6th day of Ligue 1, their first of the season at home. During one of the most exciting meetings since the start of the season, the Canaries trembled until the end, only finally taking off after added time.

Before all these adventures, Pierre Aristouy’s men had already started their match badly, disturbed by the Merlus’ plan. Coming to place his head on a cross from the right, the young Éli Junior Kroupi (17 years old) opened the scoring in the 5th minute, concluding the good orange start. The Nantes residents, however, were able to get back on track with the match even before the break, thanks to a nice strike from Matthis Abline, in pivot (1-1, 41st).

Mohamed’s jewel

But it was upon returning from the locker room that the match definitely got heated, dynamited by a very early goal from Eray Cömert. The second half had barely begun, the Nantes defender rose higher than the others from a corner to put his team in front (2-1, 46th). A few minutes later, it was Mostafa Mohamed, the Canaries’ providential man since the start of the season, who scored his goal: a gem of a free kick from 30 meters, which saw his race end in full top corner (3-1, 54th).

Mass could have been said, but the Lorientais, who once again brought in Benjamin Mendy, showed resilience. Romain Faivre, the first, gave the Bretons hope with a cross strike from the center (3-2, 75th). Nothing to disconcert the Nantes residents, who then took off again thanks to Florent Mollet, scorer (4-2, 84th) after a magnificent series of dribbles from Moses Simon… A few seconds before Aiyegun Tosin (4-3, 85th) does not retort, concluding a great collective action.

A saving penalty

For its last ten minutes, the match then tipped into the irrational. The Lorient people believed they could snatch a draw, claiming a penalty for a handball in the area after a strike from Faivre (90+4th), then seeing Isaak Touré’s head pushed back by Rémy Descamps (90th+5). But in the end it was they who were the last to break, conceding a penalty on a counterattack. Responsible for the production, Simon did not fail to endorse the Nantes victory (5-3, 90th + 7).

After a difficult start to the season, this success allows the Canaries to give themselves some air in the standings. Pending the other results of the day, they are now sixth, with 8 points and move ahead of their opponent of the day (6 points).
