Ligue 1: Bordeaux players step up to defend Costil, accused of racism by supporters

by time news

Tension is rising more and more in Bordeaux. While Benoît Costil and Laurent Koscielny have been accused of racism by some supporters, and in particular Ultramarines spokesperson Florian Brunet, the players have decided to communicate in order to defend two of the locker room managers. President Gérard Lopez had rather defended his supporters on Sunday evening after an episode which saw the Girondin goalkeeper and the spokesperson for the ultras finish head to head.

In this press release relayed by Sud-Ouest, the players express their support through Costil and Koscniely. “Following the various articles published on Wednesday, the professional group joins forces with the club to formally deny the accusations of racism against the players of the team. We condemn all forms of racism in football and in society.”

A few minutes earlier the UNFP had also taken the floor to defend the players in the face of the exclamations of the supporters: “What a fly has stung the Bordeaux supporters, what dark force is pushing them to burn today those they adored yesterday, to blame the players for all the wrongs. “Currently, Bordeaux is last in Ligue 1 with five points behind the eighteenth and play-off, Saint-Etienne and six on the first not relegated, Clermont. The Bordelais must move on the lawn of Lille, Saturday April 2 at 7 p.m.
