Kick-off for the fifth day of Ligue 1, on Sunday at 8:45 pm, will be without them. The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, has banned the travel of supporters of Olympique de Marseille for the fight against Olympique Lyonnais, according to the order published on Thursday in the Official Journal.

The measure, which is in effect on Sunday at 00:00 until midnight, is justified by the fact that there is, according to the minister, “a real and serious risk of clashes between the supporters of the two parties” .

Fear of “everyone’s reaction”

OM’s marches “are often a source of disturbance to public order due to the violent behavior of some supporters”, and this “around stadiums and in city centers of meeting places” during “fights between supporters”, including “violence against the police or throwing fire, smoke bombs or canisters”.

This was the case in September 2021, recalls the authority, during the meeting against Angers during which “many projects were exchanged between the supporters of the two parties” before the “violent struggle on the pitch of the supporters of the parties both and damage to stadium furniture.”

The often “violent” behavior of OL fans

“The urgency of the events” then “led the Professional Football League to announce the closure of guest stands during OM tours until December 31, 2021,” the order continued. The outgoing minister also stressed that during home matches some OL supporters “have adopted violent behavior for many years”.

On September 9, the Rhône administration published an order banning parking, driving on public roads and access to the Groupama Stadium and downtown Lyon, the minister indicated in his order.
