Ligue 2: why Paris FC will play its first four “home” games in Troyes

The oldest supporters of Paris FC undoubtedly remember the 1981-1982 season, when their club had already played around ten matches at the Aube stadium after a rapprochement with Troyes. This time, the relocation is made necessary by the work undertaken to transform the lawn of the Charléty stadium into a hybrid. A necessary change. Because if a few adjustments have made it possible to improve things, no one has forgotten his disastrous state at the start of 2023, which then led to the postponement of the match against Amiens on February 11.

Deprived of a stadium, Paris FC has therefore studied several fallback solutions: Le Mans, where it had already played in January 2022 following the suspension of Charléty linked to the incidents against Lyon, Amiens, Chambly and therefore Troyes. An agreement has been reached with the club, the City of Troyes and Troyes Champagne Métropole.

Paris FC will play its first four “home” matches there: Caen (1st day) this Saturday August 5, Concarneau (4th day, August 26), Amiens (6th day, September 16), Laval (8th day, September 26) . This relocation will have a significant cost for the Parisian club and may also prove to be penalizing on a sporting level. And even if the PFC supports the movement of its supporters by chartering buses, the crowds and the atmosphere will be affected. To make matters worse, his request to be able to train this Friday at the Aube stadium, in order to take some bearings, was refused.

But on the side of the leaders, the timing of this work, delayed by several events scheduled this summer in Charléty, such as the World Para Athletics Championships or which will take place there (World Cup archery qualifiers) , had a hard time passing.

Work planning angers club

“We are angry, it is a disappointment to deprive our supporters of the first 4 games at Charléty”, launches the particularly offensive president Pierre Ferracci in a video published by the club.

“We could have avoided that with better work planning,” he continues. It’s nice to finally be able to benefit from a hybrid lawn worthy of the name, but it would also have been nice to plan better. Okay, we’re not alone in Charléty, but we’re here all the same… At the direction of Charléty, in the services of the city of Paris, we should better take into account what Paris FC is today today. I have a lot of respect for the city of Paris which helps us, but we would like more respect for what the club has become. We are waiting for us to pay more attention to a club which is on the way, I hope for the L1… Fortunately, moreover, that we have not gone up, it would have been a great disaster to start the season with two months away. »

But Pierre Ferracci also sees further: “It will be an opportunity for us to present a project for the development of the Charléty stadium to the town hall in September”, he concludes.
