Like some two flying: pilots missed the runway because they fell asleep

by time news

Two Ethiopian Airlines pilots fell asleep and missed their landing while flying a Boeing 737 from Khartoum in Sudan to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. The incident occurred when the plane was cruising at 37,000 feet on autopilot and did not begin its descent towards Addis Ababa airport.

The air traffic control in Ethiopia tried to contact the two pilots, but after being unsuccessful, an alert was activated at the airport. After that, the pilots woke up from their sleep and the plane started to descend and landed safely 25 minutes later.

Ethiopian Airlines responded to the incident and said that “appropriate actions will be taken based on the results of the incident investigation. Safety has always been and will continue to be our top priority.”
