Five days before the return match against Chelsea in the knockout stages of the Champions League, Lille was held in check by Saint-Etienne (0-0), 16e in the Ligue 1 standings. A result which is cause for concern, when the Northerners had already lost 2-0 in the first leg against the English club.
LOSC also suffered a setback with the injury of midfielder Renato Sanches. The Portuguese, who injured his left thigh on an acceleration in the 20e minute, will probably forfeit for the European duel on Wednesday. In the first leg, the former Bayern Munich player was the only Lille resident to rise to the level of the reigning European champion.
Les Dogues, who could temporarily take fifth place, lost another two precious points at home and missed the opportunity to put pressure on their direct competitors for the European places.
