Twitter owner and CEO Elon Musk recently dropped the bomb and resigned as boss. His successor: Linda Yaccarino. “My role will morph into that of CEO and CTO overseeing product, software and sysops,” he adds. Just last month, the advertiser did a lengthy interview with Musk at the MMA’s Possible Miami event. Another topic was the balancing act that Elon has to do every day so that he can take care of all his companies. After the interview, Yaccarino full of praise for him.
Musk made the decision to have someone else run Twitter in December last year. At the time, he promised to step down as CEO once he found someone “dumb enough” to do the job. Time will tell if it’s really “stupid” to work as Twitter CEO under Elon Musk. In any case, Linda Yaccarino has the right qualifications to tackle the most important problems of the short message service.
Linda Yaccarino could save Elon Musk’s financial chaos
Because Yaccarino is an advertising expert. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University in 1985, it took her just seven years to become responsible for advertising revenue, marketing and acquisitions at Turner, a US media company that operates cable stations and deals in film rights. After almost 20 years, she then moved to NBCUniversal. Initially, she also worked there as head of sales, before taking over the presidency for advertising and partnerships. When the first rumors about the personnel surfaced, reports the “New York Times“, citing a statement from the company that Yaccarino has left NBCUniversal effective immediately.

Since Musk has already stated that he wants to continue to take responsibility, especially when it comes to technology, Yaccarino’s role would be clear: she would have to ensure that Twitter made money again as soon as possible. While Musk has tried to turn things around with mass layoffs and brutal austerity measures, Twitter has so far failed to turn a profit. That’s also because the company lacks many advertisers who, due to chaotic leadership and numerous controversies, are no longer willing to show up on Twitter.
In the aforementioned conversation with Yaccarino, of all things, he spoke in detail about the problems that Twitter is currently having – without giving specific figures (Elon Musk does not want to delete hate speech and is risking everything). About a month ago he outlined how he imagines the future of the platform. He explained that he wanted a “middle ground” that fulfills his claim to the often propagated “freedom of expression”, but at the same time creates an attractive advertising environment. Most recently, a report by the Wall Street Journal said that 37 of the former top 100 advertisers have not paid a cent since Musk took over. Another 24 would have cut their spending by at least 80 percent.
That – and many, many other problems – would be the first construction sites that Linda Yaccarino has to take care of. She herself has been on Twitter since 2010 and hasn’t said a word about her possible new job.

However, Linda Yaccarino is not entirely undisputed. In 2018 she advised Donald Trump and worked for around two years on the so-called “President’s Council on Sport, Fitness and Nutrition”. in one Protocol of the 2018 annual gathering, she emerges with several quotes. Even if it does not reveal what political positions Yaccarino represents, many people are angry about a voluntary cooperation with the former US President. It would suit Musk, on the other hand – in recent months he has increasingly publicly approached the Republicans, whose model figure Trump is still.
However, there was also displeasure among Musk fans and people who showed their affection and willingness to pay with a blue subscription tick. This is apparently because Linda Yaccarino has been a chair of the World Economic Forum (WEF) since early 2019. Every year, the WEF hosts a meeting of business leaders and politicians in the Swiss spa town of Davos and is repeatedly the target of conspiracy myths.
Since the “global elites” meet there in a protected atmosphere, many people suspect that the fate of ordinary people is decided there and that particularly rich people actively influence politics. And because Yaccarino also campaigned for vaccines and compulsory masks in the course of the pandemic, people in particular who can be attributed to the lateral thinker movement are already opposing them. Threats to immediately terminate Twitter Blue abound in relevant posts.
Yaccarino is Elon Musk’s boss – and he is her boss
As CEO of Twitter, she finds herself in a strange situation where at least a similar mindset to that of Elon Musk would be essential for survival. Because although Musk announced that he would be stepping down from his position as boss and throwing himself into the company’s technical needs, as the owner of the platform he would still be authorized to issue directives. At the same time, Yaccarino would also be Musk’s boss, since the CTO reports to the CEO. It is questionable how this will work in the long term for a hothead like Musk. It is conceivable that whenever there is a disagreement, he will immediately draw the owner card and put Yaccarino in her place. But nobody should be able to say that they were not warned. As previously mentioned, Musk was explicitly looking for someone “dumb enough” to do the job. There really couldn’t have been any more red flags.
