Scheduled for Saturday, November 18, a concert of the controversial German performer Till Lindeman (Till Lindemann) was suddenly cancelled. The concert was supposed to take place in the German city of Kassel – in the ice palace.

Over the weekend, the city administration published a statement on its page: “Dear fans of Till Lindemann, the city of Kassel is very sorry about the cancellation of the concerts. All responsible people know that many guests have been enjoying the upcoming concert for a long time, and therefore they understand how very disappointed people are with this cancellation. The city of Kassel would be very happy to allow this concert.” According to German media, the decision to cancel is not related to the discussions about sexual harassment that have accompanied Rammstein’s entire European tour this year, nor to the protests against Lindemann’s performances.

What then is the reason?

The reason for canceling the concert is bureaucratic. The concert became impossible due to a missing permit for the stadium. Last week, the organizer of the concert, MM Konzerte, accused the Kassel city administration of the fact that their application, which was submitted on October 10, was accepted for processing only in early November. On November 6, the organizers were asked for additional documentation, which had to be provided within four days.

As the concert organizers emphasized, they were ready to provide the missing documents, but the city was not able to process them by the date of the concert. According to officials, the organizer contacted them only in the middle of last month, and the written application was received on October 19. The city emphasized that the organizers have no grounds for demanding compensation for losses.

The concert was canceled, but the protests still took place

The need for additional documentation is due to the fact that the arena, which is intended to host sporting events, is used differently during the concert, which requires additional fire safety measures, and so on.

The concert in Kassel has already sold out 6,000 tickets in just a few months.

Despite the cancellation of the concert, a protest took place in Kassel. About 100 people supporting the “Anti Lindemann Aktion Kassel” initiative came despite the pouring rain. Today, November 20, Lindemann will perform in Trier.
