A new ready-to-wear brand reveals its financial difficulties. Lingerie designer Maison Lejaby was placed in receivership on Tuesday by the Lyon commercial court, we learned from consistent sources this Wednesday.
Maison Lejaby, whose headquarters is in Rillieux-la-Pape (Rhône), is a lingerie brand which currently has 55 employees including 30 people responsible for sales and two stores in Paris and Lyon, according to the unions. The brand also has “corners” at Galeries Lafayette and Bon Marché.
Debt generated during Covid
“In order to preserve its future activity, faced with an operating debt mainly generated during the Covid period, Maison Lejaby requested the commercial court to go into receivership,” indicated Thierry Le Guénic, head of Maison Lejaby , in an internal press release.
For the coming months “and in normal activity”, the majority shareholder “is committed to providing financial support”, it is specified in this same press release.
This period “gives the opportunity to Maison Lejaby, and its employees, to accelerate the transformations undertaken towards a move upmarket, a greater international presence, and on digital”.
For its part, the Lyon Commercial Court confirmed that a judicial recovery procedure had been opened with an observation period of six months.
No job cuts at this stage
According to Olivier David, secretary of the CSE (social and economic committee) and CFDT representative of Maison Lejaby, “at present, there are no job cuts announced”. “However, we remain vigilant on the issue of jobs and salaries,” he added.
Entrepreneur-investor, Thierry Le Guénic also acquired the Habitat brand in 2020, placed in compulsory liquidation on December 28, 2023, as well as the clothing brand Burton of London, in receivership and which has not found a buyer.
He also took over the ready-to-wear brand Paule Ka and was part of a trio of investors, including Stéphane Collaert, who bought Chevignon from Vivarte in 2019.
