The right underwear ensures a feel-good factor in everyday life, can even be part of the outfit and should be one thing above all: a perfect fit. But what does a woman pay attention to when buying and which lingerie will be trendy in 2023?

Underwear is no longer just something for special occasions or something that women hide under their clothes. High-quality lingerie also ensures a feel-good factor in everyday life and sometimes even belongs to the right outfit, for example when the lace bra peeks out in the blazer combination. What lingerie trends will there be in 2023 and what you need to consider when buying the right underwear.

Nicole Kattwinkel from the store Rigby & Peller in Hamburg-Eppendorf is familiar with the underwear preferences of her customers and the lingerie trends for 2023. She says: “Most of all, my customers like variety, so that you can sometimes add elements, like an additional strip, to make the look a little wicked.” Striking colors will also be seen more often again in 2023. Above all, these three trends can be found in current collections.

1. Dessous-Trend: Sexy Details

As already mentioned above, “Bondage with style” is one of the lingerie trends for 2023. Whether transparency, strips, thongs or tightly cut lingerie: sexy-looking underwear is particularly popular this year. For example in black and gold or with small rings: With this trend, the details make the difference. Of course, it is particularly attractive when that Set of panties or tanga and bra or bralette fits together. Or you can grab a sexy body, which is also one of the trends.

2nd lingerie trend: playful patterns

But romantic playfulness is currently popular with many customers, reveals Kattwinkel. “Some of our models can be turned into a halter neck. If you then see the floral straps flashing, for example in the color ‘Electric Pink’, it can look great. Combined with a leather jacket, for example,” says the expert. “Our customers then wear it like a piece of jewellery.” Next to Flower Ornaments However, other playful patterns are also popular at the moment: a scalloped hem, sweeping lines or even floral lace.

3. Lingerie trend: bright colors

Lingerie in eye-catching colors can also act as an eye-catcher: like a bralette in red, which peeks out from under the otherwise rather simple blazer look. Other trendy colors are orange or velvet blue, says the expert. But you can also find shades of green again and again.

Earthy tones with subtle highlights, such as Lurex or shimmer, are also among the lingerie trends for 2023. Bodysuits with fine details, such as golden chains or pearls, are still popular.

Tips on buying lingerie

In addition to current trends, Nicole Kattwinkel also knows what is important when buying lingerie. “The support of a bra does not come from the strap, but always from the back.” In other words, the strap should not be tight, but should always fit two fingers underneath. Instead, it should be tighter under the breast, the bridge should fit snugly and the back and closure should be straight – otherwise there is a risk that the wearer will slip on the shoulder and, in the worst case, bad posture will occur.

If you don’t yet know your panty and especially bra size, you can’t just get advice from the lingerie shop around the corner. Some stores now also offer measuring using innovative 3D technology. A special 3D mirror at Rigby & Peller, for example, offers an exact measurement of the right bra size by measuring 140 points of the upper body in less than a minute and calculating the data from them. So you always have the right size ready for future purchases and prevent bad buys.

Information on caring for your lingerie

You should wash your bra after about two days of wearing it.Lingerie should always be in a lockable laundry bag washed, the laundry drum should be no more than a third full and the spin cycle should be low. The right temperature is around 30 degrees or the “delicate wash” program. It is best to wash with one liquid mild detergent. Heavy-duty detergents, fabric softeners and bleach are taboo. You should not put lingerie in the dryer or on the heater, and you should also not iron lingerie.
