Mayiladuthurai: Electricity consumers are in trouble as they can pay electricity bill online only by linking Aadhaar number with electricity connection number.
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has advised the electricity consumers in Tamil Nadu to link their electricity connection number with Aadhaar number for agricultural connections, handloom consumers, first 100 units of free electricity and slum dwellers. Also, the E-Board has also released an online link https://www.tnebltd.gov.in/adharupload/adhaentry.xhtml for linking Aadhaar number.
While no deadline has been announced for linking the Aadhaar number, when trying to pay the electricity bill through the Electricity Board website, the payment can only be made by linking the Aadhaar number. Due to this, electricity consumers are in trouble.
Regarding this, a consumer who came to pay his electricity bill at an internet center in Mayiladuthurai District, Porayar, told the ‘Hindu Tamil’ daily:
Today is the last day to pay electricity bill for our area. But payment could not be made as Aadhaar number is not linked. Go home and bring Aadhaar card to avoid fine. As a result, we are in turmoil. It is not appropriate to insist that payment can only be made by linking Aadhaar number when no deadline has been announced for linking Aadhaar number. They said that the electricity board should take appropriate action so that electricity consumers are not affected.
When I asked the electricity board officials about this, they said, “Such a situation did not occur when we came to the electricity board office and paid the electricity bill through our portal. However, they say that when electricity bill is paid through the website separately, payment can be made only by linking the Aadhaar number. We don’t know if the website has been designed accordingly.
According to the internet center, “It is not possible to pay the electricity bill through the electricity board website without linking the Aadhaar number. When you try to make a payment, a link to link your Aadhaar number will automatically appear. In this, payment can be made only by linking the Aadhaar number. “At the same time, you can pay through UPI from your cell phone,” he said. This is not the case when the electricity bill is paid through the electricity board portal.
