The German government has called for restraint in the Middle East after Israeli strikes killed a Hezbollah commander and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Beirut and Tehran, respectively.

“It is very important to avoid further escalation and a regional conflagration,” German Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer told reporters, adding that “we call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint; the logic of tit-for-tat retaliation is the wrong way to go.”

Earlier, Cursor wrote that Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, vowed to make Israel regret the liquidation of Hamas terrorist leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, promised “severe punishment” for the murder.

Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Pezeshkian, who recently won the election.

“Iran mourns the martyrdom of the brave leader of the Palestinian resistance, Ismail Haniyeh,” Pezeshkian wrote on his official account on the X website. “Yesterday I shook his victorious hand, and today I have to carry his coffin on my shoulders.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its territorial integrity and honor and make the terrorist occupiers regret their cowardly actions,” Pezeshkian continued, referring to Israel.

Israel has made no comment on the incident, which comes amid its war with the Iran-backed Hamas terrorist group in the Gaza Strip.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that Egypt appealed to the UN Security Council after the liquidation of Haniyeh and Shukr.
