Apple’s longtime environmental visionary, Lisa Jackson, has stepped down from her role as Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, marking the end of an era for the tech giant’s sustainability efforts. Jackson was removed from the company’s leadership page today, following an initial announcement of her retirement this month.

A Legacy of Green Initiatives at Apple

What was Lisa Jackson’s role at Apple? Since joining Apple in 2013, Jackson led the company’s renewable energy initiatives, energy efficiency programs, and broader environmental policies, reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook.

Jackson’s tenure, beginning in 2013, saw Apple make significant strides in reducing its environmental impact. Her presence was often felt at Apple events, frequently appearing on the solar rooftop of Apple Park.

Beyond Environmental Impact

Jackson’s responsibilities extended beyond environmental concerns. She also spearheaded Apple’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative and oversaw the company’s worldwide Government Affairs team, navigating complex regulatory landscapes and advocating for Apple’s interests globally.

Tim Cook expressed his gratitude for Jackson’s contributions, stating, “I am deeply appreciative of Lisa’s contributions. She has been instrumental in helping us reduce our global greenhouse emissions by more than 60 percent compared to 2015 levels. She has also been a critical strategic partner in engaging governments around the world, advocating for the best interests of our users on a myriad of topics, as well as advancing our values, from education and accessibility to privacy and security.”
