Stroke (acute) and surgical acute abdomen become part of the list of illnesses that give benefit even without the insured having made the minimum payment of 12 contributions.

Check below the list of diseases that waive the grace period requirement for the granting of benefits for temporary disability and permanent disability retirement to insured persons:

With this, the worker who is affected by any of these diseases can have the disability benefit provided that he presents a medical report that proves the disease, as well as a certificate of leave and a prescription.

How to apply for benefits

Sickness aid, which is now called temporary disability benefit, is paid to people who are unable to work for more than 15 days on a temporary basis and not permanently, that is, with a certain recovery period.

The disability benefit is given to workers who are permanently incapacitated for work, preventing them from carrying out their duties.

To make the request, the insured person must contact the Meu INSS website, the Meu INSS app, available for Android and iOS, or call centers 135 to make an appointment with the medical expert.

Day, time and location will be scheduled. On the day of the consultation, it is necessary to take all the reports, exams, certificates and medical guides to compose the proof of the disease that will be evaluated by the expert.

Since the beginning of August, however, it is possible to apply for a temporary disability benefit (formerly sickness benefit) without the need to undergo an expert examination. The option is released in locations where the waiting time for carrying out the expertise is longer than 30 days.

Those who already have scheduled expertise and want to change the request for document analysis can request the “Aid for temporary disability – Document Analysis – AIT” through My INSS. This will cancel the scheduled expertise, but the initial application filing date will be maintained.

It is important to remember that granting the benefit will not be automatic. The medical certificate and additional documents proving the disease will be submitted to the Federal Medical Expertise, which will carry out the analysis of the documents.
