The work of medical personnel always has the well-being of patients as its main objective. At the same time, there are some rewards that can be received for fulfilling the tasks and they go beyond salary. There are various recognitions that seek to distinguish the most outstanding people and within the list are the Carlos Slim Health Awards.
In this case, the Carlos Slim Foundation is a non-profit Mexican civil association. It was created in 1986 under the name of Asociación Carso by the businessman Carlos Slim Helu with the intention of favoring the integral development of Mexican and Latin American society.
Recognition to outstanding doctors and institutions
Since then it has grown in every way. It currently has social responsibility programs and actions focused on 12 areas: health, education, employment, economic development, culture, sports, social justice, human development, migration, support in natural disasters, road safety, and environmental conservation.
The man behind the foundation is the engineer Slim and he is listed as the man with the greatest fortune in Mexico and the rest of Latin America. To date, he has a fortune valued at 93.4 billion dollars. With this he is the eighth richest person in the world.
Beyond making his fortune grow, the tycoon has also been interested in recognizing and encouraging the work of others. It was thus that the Carlos Slim Health Awards and with a ceremony the winners of the 2023 edition were announced.

At the event, Marco Antonio Slim Domit recounted the actions of the Carlos Slim Foundation during the pandemic. Among them, the COVID-19 Temporary Unit and the production of the AstraZeneca vaccine for Latin America.
“The pandemic presented unprecedented challenges, prompting the Foundation to focus its capabilities and implement immediate innovative solutions, to decisively reduce the impact of COVID on the health, employment, and lives of millions of people, in Mexico and the rest of the world. from Latin America”.
Likewise, mention was made of the actions carried out by the Carlos Slim Foundation, in support of the serious effects derived from the earthquakes that in 2017 impacted many thousands of people in the country. In terms of health, the rehabilitation of 8 National Health Institutes and 92 health centers stands out, as well as the construction of two new centers and the new hospitalization tower of the “Manuel Gea González” General Hospital.
At the ceremony of the Carlos Slim Health Awards Not only were the recognitions corresponding to 2023 delivered, but also those of the previous three years because due to the pandemic they could not be carried out.
