News from Angola – The first literary work by Angolan author Paulo Figueira, entitled “The Monks of Salem and the Outlawed Politician”, was launched at the Palácio de Ferro Cultural stage, in Luanda.

Launched under the seal of the publisher Caneta de Estilo, it has 155 pages and twenty chapters and an initial print run of a thousand copies.

According to the author, the work is a living portrait and an invitation to a historical journey of a love lived on the border between the Malanjino and Popular neighborhoods, in the country’s capital.

According to the same agreement, the work will be presented on December 15th in Portugal and will travel to the Netherlands and the United States of America (USA).

He highlighted that he intends to reach the largest number of readers possible not only in Angola, but also across the diaspora, as he highlighted, in statements to Notícias de Angola.

The book is prefaced by Angolan writer Isabel Ferreira who, on the occasion, congratulated herself on having been “the person appointed by the author to preface the work”, according to her, the work “is unique and provokes an inner encounter and transversal reflection” .

Representing the Young Brigade of Literature of Angola (BJLA), Francisco Paulino, stressed that “the work is of great importance not only because of the subject portrayed, but because it was written by a young man”. He encouraged the author and guaranteed the Brigade’s full support in disseminating the book.

Born in Malanje, Paulo Figueira has a degree in Computer Engineering from the Independent University of Angola, a Master’s degree in Business Intelligence & Analytics from Saint Joseph’s University, in Philadelphia, USA.

Paulo Figueira worked at the International Theater Association affiliated to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

He is a founding member of the Angola University Theater Association (ATUA) and director of the Angola University Theater Festival (FETU), for almost 10 years.

Founder, director and actor of the group Atu Wa Ube Teatro, in 2001, and of the theater group Universitário Uniartes, in 2004.

As an actor, he worked on television, in short appearances in Angolan soap operas and in several advertising campaigns, but his biggest commitment was to theater, working as a teacher for teenagers. He currently resides in the state of Philadelphia, USA.
