The selection of civil defense volunteers who will be engaged in explanatory work and training of the population was announced by the Lithuanian branch of the International Committee of the Red Cross. This was reported to journalists by the head of the branch’s projects, Kristina Mickene, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“When explaining to the population what to do in the event of war, man-made accidents, natural disasters, it is necessary to cover as wide a circle of people as possible. This will be facilitated by volunteers, whose selection we are beginning,” she said.

According to the prepared program, volunteers will conduct both theoretical and practical classes. They will explain to the listeners how to prepare an emergency backpack, what to put in it, what they must take with them. They will advise what kind of food supply they need to keep at home, how to prepare not only an individual but also a family action plan.

During practical training, residents will learn where to hide in the event of an alarm signal, where the nearest civil defense shelters are located. “The first 72 hours of an emergency, which are necessary for the arrival of help, are the most important for safety and survival. This will be the focus of the volunteers’ communication with the population,” Mickene noted.

She did not specify the size of the team of volunteers that is planned to be prepared.
