MADRID, 24 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, pointed out this Monday that it is necessary to leave behind the “hackneyed phrases” about Ukraine’s entry into NATO and accelerate once and for all the mechanisms so that its accession becomes effective as quickly as possible. .

“Instead of repeating hackneyed phrases about the open doors of NATO, we need to find more concrete mechanisms for the rapid integration of Ukraine after the end of the war,” Nauseda said two months after the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, hosts the new summit of the Alliance.

Nauseda has also defended the participation of the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, in the Vilnius meeting and has affirmed that Ukraine’s entry into NATO will provide the group with the “rich” experience that Kiev has had in facing the Russian forces throughout throughout this past year.

“They do not believe that the Ukrainian army, which was baptized on the battlefield, has such a rich experience as any other army in a European country,” the Lithuanian president asked journalists, reports the Delfi portal.

“I think that we are all interested in having President Zelensky participate in our discussions. An important part of it will be dedicated and directly related to Ukraine,” he said.

The next NATO summit will be held in Vilnius on July 11 and 12, in which the participation of President Zelenski is scheduled. In his first visit to Kiev since the start of the invasion, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that while Ukraine “deserves” to enter, now is the time to focus on winning the war.
