So far eleven different Lithuanian institutions, including four ministries and seven national agencies (such as the police), have signed an agreement to implement the national road safety program “Vision Zero”. The goal is to reduce the number of deaths on Lithuanian roads by 2030.

This agreement is a new push to the many measures taken earlier by the Ministry of Transport of Lithuania against road accidents which already gave good results. In fact, in the last three years (2020-2023), the number of people killed on the road has decreased by almost 11%.

But the Government of the Baltic country is not satisfied and wants an even bigger reduction. “That’s why we come together to work together and renew our commitment to take comprehensive measures that improve safety by creating road safety, the implementation of advanced traffic management measures and promoting a safe driving culture.“, explained the Minister of Transport, Marius Skuodis.

This new “Zero Vision” plan envisages 44 different measures ranging from improving road infrastructure in areas of high concentration of accidents to initiatives to protect the vulnerable, such as the expansion of a network of roads for the exclusive use of pedestrians and the wheels.
