Lithuania has announced a ban on the import of 50% of goods to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad

Authorities in Lithuania have announced that due to sanctions imposed by the EU, a ban on the passage of goods through state territory to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad will be imposed. The sanctions are expected to take effect starting today (Saturday), the Reuters news agency reported.

The list of sanctions imposed by the EU applies mainly to coal, metals, building materials and advanced technology, the region governor Valikanov said the ban would cover about 50% of the items imported by Kaliningrad.

The Kaliningrad governor threatened in response that, “there will be implications for Lithuania’s decision to impose restrictions on our goods.”
