Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas believes that exercises involving long-range Patriot air defense missile systems of NATO member countries could be held in Lithuania on a regular basis. Lithuania does not have such systems in service, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“The nearly two-week exercise, to which the Netherlands sent Patriot air defense systems, was a success. We have appealed to the military leadership of the allies to make such training a permanent basis,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Baltic Connection exercises, which began on July 7.

During the exercise, the Patriot SAM was deployed at the Lithuanian Air Force Zokniai Air Base in Šiauliai, from where NATO fighters rotate over the Baltic airspace. The exercise involved a Lithuanian Air Force air defense battalion with NASAMS multiple launch rocket systems, Lithuanian Air Force aircraft, a Patriot system from the Netherlands, and fighters from the Spanish and Portuguese Air Forces based at Zokniai Air Base.

The scenario of the exercises included the redeployment of participants, their assembly at a designated location, the development of unified command methods, and the identification of potential enemy aircraft.
