“Poland is a strong ally of the United States, and this deal will further strengthen NATO’s eastern flank. Poland is pursuing a major military modernization program, including the purchase of US defense equipment such as F-35 jets, Patriot missile systems and Abrams main battle tanks. The loan funds will further promote the modernization of Poland’s military equipment, covering various capabilities, and will significantly contribute to the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank defenses,” said US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

It is a mobile system that usually consists of a powerful radar, control station, power generator, launch stations and other support vehicles. The system can have different capabilities depending on the type of interceptor missile used.
„M1 Abrams“
The M1 Abrams is one of the heaviest modern tanks with a combat weight of over 62 tons. At the same time, it is the first combat vehicle that uses many innovative solutions, including a computerized fire control system and an ammunition storage separated from the crew.
The frontal parts of the tank’s hull and turret are equipped with multi-layered passive armor – combined armor modules based on the British Chobham armor, which is also used on the British Challenger tanks. The tank is also equipped with chemical, biological and nuclear protection systems.
Since 1985 Abrams tanks are equipped with a 120 mm M256 smoothbore gun, which is stabilized in two planes. It is a licensed version of the German Rheinmetall 120 gun currently used on Leopard 2 tanks. The cannon can fire conventional projectiles and high-explosive ammunition, as well as special concrete-piercing charges.
Auxiliary armament consists of a 7.62mm M240 machine gun mounted next to the gun and a second machine gun near the loader hatch. A 12.7 mm M2 heavy anti-aircraft machine gun is installed in the turret.
