Thiruvananthapuram: State Law Minister P Rajeev has criticized the irresponsible approach taken by the opposition in the last part of the debate on the Chancellor’s Bill. The opposition had nothing left to argue. One issue they raised was a violation of protocol. But they backed away from that argument.

Their proposal came in the form of appointing retired High Court or Supreme Court judges as chancellors to avoid violation of protocol. That argument also does not stand as there is no retired High Court Judge or Supreme Court Judge anywhere in the Protocol.

There was very little disagreement between the ruling party and the opposition in this regard. This was not a disagreement that should have led to a walkout. The position of the opposition is that a retired judge from the Supreme Court or a retired Chief Justice from the High Court should be the chancellor. It is our position that one can become a retired judge from the Supreme Court or a retired Chief Justice from the High Court. The opposition’s position is that only they should. The position of the ruling party was that it could be. Minister Rajeev also explained that the dispute was in this.

A broad perspective related to the education sector is to hire the most qualified person. The opposition’s proposal was to limit it. Rajeev accused the opposition leader of stepping down as part of an extremely narrow political stance.
