Emile, 2 and a half years old, has been missing since late Saturday afternoon from the hamlet of Haut-Vernet, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Three days later, despite intense searches, the child “has not been found”, announced, Tuesday, July 11, the public prosecutor of Digne-les-Bains, Rémy Avon, during a press briefing. Investigators still have “no clue, no information, no element” pour “understand how little Emile disappeared”a conceded the magistrate.

The investigation will move on to a second phase. “analysis and examination” of the first elements collected, said Mr. Avon. “We have to give ourselves time to be able to exploit [ces éléments] »he continued, “and maybe we will discover that we have something that can be linked to the disappearance”. The search of the premises by professionals will also continue on Wednesday.

The beats, that is to say the “operations carried out with a large number of people” who volunteered have been arrested since Monday evening. Since 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, the hamlet of Haut-Vernet has been “sanctuary” by the police and “prohibited to any foreign person in the village”. “The 30 buildings that make up the hamlet were completely visited, 25 people were heard, 12 vehicles visited and 12 hectares raked”listed the prosecutor.

The investigators will increase from 15 to 20 and the investigation cell will now become a cell « nationale »which will benefit “regional and national means, in particular scientific and technical, to be able to carry out all the investigations”.

Regarding the call for witnesses, 1,200 calls were received, according to the prosecutor, who appealed to the “citizenship” so as not to drown the investigators in useless information.

Like the day before, Mr. Avon reported not ruling out any leads. The investigation, opened since Sunday, is still being conducted for “search for the causes of worrying disappearance”.

Little Emile was last seen on Saturday at 5:15 p.m., alone, in an alley in the tiny hamlet of twenty-five inhabitants, located about 2 kilometers from the village of Vernet itself (125 inhabitants).

For two days, searches and hunts were carried out within a perimeter of 5 kilometers around the hamlet, in vain: “After forty-eight hours, the child should have been found in this perimeter”had explained the prefect of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Marc Chappuis, Monday at the end of the afternoon, specifying however: “We don’t stop research, we don’t lose hope. »
