LIV Golf unveils 2024 schedule with increased international presence

LIV Golf released a partial schedule for its upcoming third season, revealing a slate with an increased international presence, multiple events going head to head with marquee PGA Tour events and some notable omissions.

The schedule revealed on Wednesday included 12 of LIV’s expected 14 events. Seven will be played internationally, with the possibility of an eighth international event being added when the full schedule is completed. The six currently scheduled domestic U.S. events include new stops in Las Vegas, Nashville, and Houston.

In a departure from previous seasons, LIV’s 2024 season will open in Mexico the first week of February. The following week, LIV will play at the Las Vegas Country Club before Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.

Other new U.S. stops will include events at the Golf Club of Houston and The Grove in Nashville. The schedule also includes events in Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

One notable omission from the schedule is Rich Harvest Farms, which hosted LIV events outside of Chicago in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, the schedule does not include dates or sites for LIV’s 2024 individual and team championships.

A significant aspect of the 2024 schedule is the fact that a handful of LIV events will be played directly opposite notable PGA Tour events. This move raises questions about whether the events will be played with LIV and the PGA Tour operating under the same umbrella. The framework agreement creating a for-profit company combining the commercial golf interests of the tour with an investment from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund that owns and operates LIV has yet to be finalized.

The schedule also raises questions about the potential U.S. venue for an April event before the Masters and the site for the 2024 individual or team championship. The site for the 2022 and 2023 team championships, Trump Doral, is also not included in the schedule, leading to speculation about the potential return of the championship to former President Donald Trump’s resort in Miami.

Overall, LIV’s 2024 schedule indicates a significant shift towards international events and raises questions about its future in conjunction with the PGA Tour. With the regular season set to end in August at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, golf fans are eagerly anticipating the completion of the full schedule and the resolution of the ongoing questions surrounding LIV Golf’s future.
