“I haven’t been there, I’m looking forward to going. I haven’t stayed there before, so I’m looking forward to staying there. “When my legs are healthy, I can do whatever I want.”
‘Vacuan’ Na Hoon-ah (77) once again made her retirement official on stage, 58 years after her debut. She was at the national tour ‘Thank You – Last Concert’ held at Songdo Convensia, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon on the 27th. He said, “(After her retirement), I will not sit in front of the piano or touch the guitar,” and “I will not even look at the entertainment industry with a slightly sideways eye.” Fans exclaimed “No!” here and there. Even though Na Hoon-ah sang 22 songs alone for 2 hours and 40 minutes without any invited singers, she did not seem to waver at all.
●’Japanese health checkup chart’ released, dismissing rumors of health abnormalities
Previously, Na Hoon-a revealed the national tour schedule in February along with a letter saying, ‘I am putting down the mic.’ However, there was no direct expression of her retirement, so there was speculation that it was a ‘retirement suggestion’. Na Hoon-ah said on this day, “I didn’t use the word retirement because I felt like I was being pushed out. I can still do it, but it means putting down the microphone.”
Na Hoon-ah sang six songs, including ‘Hometown Station’ and ‘18 Year Old Soon-i’, and changed her clothes each time. When she sang ’18 Year Old Soon-Yi’, she wore an unconventional outfit called a pink fishnet top and pleated skirt. The audience burst into laughter during her ‘performance’ where she took off her clothes on stage with a translucent screen in between. He said, “Today, I will change my clothes 15 times so that you don’t lose your senses. “She will sing without breaking a single line and keep each line clear.” She alternately sang her hit songs and latest songs, including ‘Change’, ‘Hongsi’, ‘Mushiro’, and ‘Tess Hyung’.
He said that the 1997 consolation performance on Sorok Island where he hugged and sang to a leprosy patient was “the most memorable and heart-warming performance.” The Super Concert held in Osaka, Japan in 1996, where people were threatened by shouting, “Dokdo is our land,” was said to be “a performance that put their necks on the line.” They also suggested that instead of ‘encore’, we should shout the Korean word ‘again!’ and that instead of the Japanese expression ‘trot’, we should say ‘traditional song’.
As if aware of the controversy surrounding her health, Na Hoon-ah said, “I took 25 blood tests in February. “She was (so healthy) that the doctor was surprised,” she said, and also released a health checkup sheet in Japanese.
●’I’m going to live like a hoon-a’
The fans’ disappointment was deep. In the audience, placards were seen: ‘The seagull must fly’, ‘Retirement is a referendum’, and ‘Retirement sucks’. Na Hoon-ah confessed his feelings by singing the comical song ‘Gong’ every time the refrain ‘Tiri’ appears, saying, “The things people do in politics these days are absurd, so let’s shout ‘Tiri’ to the National Assembly building,” or “If someone dies, He did not forget to satirize the social situation by saying, “Let’s shout ‘Tiri’ to North Korea, a strange group that decides on its own.”
Before singing the finale song ‘Man’, he expressed his gratitude to his fans and looked overjoyed. She said, “Thank you so much, everyone!” and then started singing ‘The Man’ while looking like she was holding back tears. She changed the word ‘man’ at the end of the song to ‘Hoon-a’ and sang, “Live like Hoon-a/Be like Hoon-a,” and then asked the audience to sing the next verse, “I’m going.” Then she sent a microphone to the drone. He got down on his knees, bowed to the audience, and then exited.
Na Hoon-ah will continue her national tour until July. She has additional performances scheduled for the second half of this year. The schedule for the ‘real last performance’ has not yet been confirmed.
