The blue and white journey to Mondobasket is in full swing. After winning the first two home games against Estonia and Poland, the Israeli team is currently hosting the German team in order to remain perfect and establish itself at the top of House 4.
Guy Goodes’ team finished the previous window with a smile when they defeated Poland 61:69 at home and came back from Estonia with 69:79 over the local team. Germany, on the other hand, started with a surprising home loss 69:66 to Estonia, but won the second game 72:69 against Poland away.
Between the two teams there is no small history from recent years. In the 2019 World Cup qualifiers, Israel won 77:81, after losing a double-digit advantage in the previous game and losing 112: 98 in overtime when the Germans equalized with a dramatic basket at the end of legal time. The teams also met at the Eurobasket held in Tel Aviv in 2017 and Israel won a dramatic 80:82 thanks to a huge three by Guy Pnini, who signed a great fourth quarter.
First quarter:
The Israeli national team quintet: Gal Makal, Yam Madar, Rafi Manko, Tomer Ginat and Idan Zalmanson.
Germany top five: Dominic Lockhart, David Kramer, Justus Holatz, Robin Benzing and Jonas Wolfhart-Butterman.
Jonas Wolfhart-Butterman scored the first points from the line, Rafi Manko returned a three from the other side. After long attacks without a basket on both sides Idan Zalmanson placed two and a correction by Tomer Ginat under the permanent basket 2: 7 white. Michael Xenz came up from the bench and scored from half distance, Gal Makal placed a layup on the other side with a slight penetration. Zalmanson completed two with good personal action and five minutes to the end of the quarter Israel led 8:11.
